Social integration of displaced people through employment
Public and policy debates on refugees, asylum applicants and migrants have become increasingly polarised. This highlights the pressing need for European countries to develop an evidence-based approach to migration and asylum, rather than one driven by prejudice. The EU-funded SIRIUS project proposes a comprehensive conceptual framework that emphasises the labour market’s pivotal role in the integration of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. By focusing on women and young people and their potential for employment and integration within the labour market, the project provides systematic evidence for the post-2014 period. SIRIUS engages with the complexities of labour market integration, examining spatial distribution, and labour market characteristics and needs, while also developing a theoretical framework for fostering inclusive integration.
