Financing healthcare systems
Organisation and funding of healthcare systems must be flexible and able to adapt to demanding situations such as those imposed by disease outbreaks or pandemics. To assist this, the EU-funded FLASH project aims to undertake an analysis of existing healthcare financing mechanisms in Europe and how they can successfully cope with emerging situations. Reallocation of funding and human resources as well as expansion of healthcare expenditure budgets are strategies previously employed in such situations. The consortium will take into account the challenges faced by healthcare systems today such as an ageing population and increasing pressure on healthcare budgets due to technological innovation. Researchers will assess equity and efficiency of alternative solutions currently deployed and explore new ones.
