The project focuses on Soviet society’s responses to the Prague Spring and the military intervention into Czechoslovakia during 1968 -1969. It will analyze archival documents, editions, memoir literature, and scholarly publications that describe public opinions in the Western Soviet republics (Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia) and in the Russian center. The resulting database analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively, will enable further classification of diverse activation of the Soviet society challenged by the expansion of neo-Stalinism.
