The project examines the reception of the Black Lives Matter and Decolonize This Place movements and their Czech versions, which pursue a transformation of the illiberal public discourse on the Czech Internet. Both movements are well known to local audiences. The topics of rights of Black Americans and decolonization activities, such as the removal of statues from public spaces in the US, have been prominently represented in Czech media. Firstly, the project analyzes communication strategies through which the movements are locally appropriated and communicated. Secondly, it studies users´ reception of online content related to these movements. By analyzing the debated issues such as racial discrimination or police violence, larger problems specific to the region of the Czech Republic and Central and Eastern Europe are scrutinized. They include the re-articulation of historical narratives, the rise of illiberalims, the polarization between conservative and emancipatory groups in society and the application of post-colonial discourse to post-socialist countries.
