Provider | Czech Science foundation |
Programme | Standard project |
Project code | 25-16159S |
Participants | Faculty of Social Sciences Charles University |
This research proposal explores the history of the Czechoslovak Pugwash committee and Pugwash in Czechoslovakia, highlighting the pivotal role of both in promoting science diplomacy in the Soviet bloc. It investigates their contributions to international scientific cooperation and promoting and developing new approaches to security issues, including the German borders question in Central and Eastern Europe. Moreover, it examines their efforts in advancing the human rights agenda both within the Soviet bloc and Pugwash at large. The proposed research will lead to one monograph, and four academic papers in highly ranked academic journals. The project will culminate in an international conference to disseminate research findings and, through promoting discussion between leading scholars in the field, contribute to a deeper understanding of Cold War dynamics and the multifaceted impact of science diplomacy on regional geopolitics and human rights advocacy.
