Three publications from FSV UK succeeded in the Charles University competition of high-quality monographs
Charles University has published the results of this year’s round of the high-quality monograph competition (2024 submission year). Three academics from FSV UK were among the successful authors.
Lucie Kadlecová from the Institute of International Studies ranked 6th with her monograph Cyber Sovereignty: The Future of Governance in Cyberspace. The publication explores how states exercise sovereignty in cyberspace and respond to the challenges of the digital environment. Through case studies of several countries, it demonstrates how governments use new technologies and legal instruments to pursue their interests in the online domain. 8th place was awarded to Bohumil Doboš from the Institute of Political Studies for his monograph The Geopolitics of Space Colonization: Future Power Relations in the Inner Solar System. The book analyses the political and power dynamics that may emerge as humanity expands its presence into space and shows how resource extraction and colonization missions could shape future power relations beyond Earth. Associate Professor Doboš discussed his research in an interview published on the faculty’s science and research website.
Karin Roginer Hofmeister from the Institute of International Studies ranked 9th with her monograph Remembering Suffering and Resistance: Memory Politics and the Serbian Orthodox Church. The publication examines the role of the Serbian Orthodox Church in shaping collective memory in contemporary Serbia. Focusing on the commemoration of Serbian victims of the Second World War, it shows how the Church uses historical memory to strengthen its position in the public sphere.
The main goal of the competition is to support authors of high-quality monographs and their faculties or other university components. Nominated monographs are evaluated by two commissions appointed by the CU Science Council, namely the Commission for Humanities and Social Sciences and the Commission for Medical and Natural Sciences.The evaluation clearly sets the standards and the level of difficulty for individual types of publications that claim to be considered key in their scientific fields.
