Survey of Short-Term and Long-Term Inflation Expectations of Czech Households
Provider | Technology Agency of the Czech Republic |
Programme | SIGMA |
Project code | TQ01000396 |
Participants | Anglo-American University in Prague (coordinator), Faculty of Social Sciences Charles University, Czech National Bank |
Principal investigator | PhDr. Jiří Schwarz, Ph.D. |
The aim of the project is to use a survey of Czech households to obtain data and then to model households’ inflation expectations adjusted for idiosyncratic and systematic deviations. Current surveys do not allow this, which significantly reduces their usefulness for setting monetary policy parameters. The goal will be achieved by designing a new survey with a mix of direct and indirect questions on expected price changes. This will be followed by 6 months of data collection, processing and evaluation. The outputs of the project (methodology, data, analytical results in the form of an expert study) will be used by the Czech National Bank and will lead to an improved ability to set monetary policy parameters, which will strengthen the resilience of the Czech economy to inflationary shocks.
