Outstanding social science research

At the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, we conduct outstanding social science research at both national and international levels, actively involving doctoral and master’s students. Through modern, multidisciplinary basic and applied research, we contribute to understanding the pressing challenges facing contemporary society and developing strategies to address them. Our experts also actively participate in Czech and international academic life by organising and co-organising workshops, seminars, and conferences. Our successful research projects also make a demonstrable contribution to the Faculty’s publication output.

Successful research projects

At FSV UK, we have carried out more than 1,000 research projects to date, including projects supported by the Charles University Grant Agency. Among our most significant achievements is securing three prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grants. Our activities also include applied research, through which we participate in projects and competitive funding programmes of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, particularly the ÉTA and SIGMA programmes.

International cooperation

We have also achieved significant success in international research projects. These include Global Excellence in Modelling of Climate and Energy (GEMCLIME, 2016–2022), a project focused on advancing energy economics and addressing challenges related to climate change. Another project led to the establishment of the multidisciplinary Central European Digital Media Observatory (CEDMO, 2021–2024). The Faculty is also home to the Supply Chain Resilience Center (SCRC), a joint initiative of Charles University and National Chengchi University in Taiwan, which contributes to the development of the semiconductor industry in Central Europe.

Science communication

Science communication and public engagement are among the Faculty’s key priorities. We showcase our researchers in the Faculty’s De Facto podcast, where they share their expert perspectives on current issues relevant not only to the academic community but also to society as a whole. We also regularly participate in science outreach events such as Researcher´s Night or the Czech Academy of Sciences Week. In cooperation with the Czech Academy of Sciences and the SciComHub association, we also organise the Science Communication 360° conference.
